News and Dispatches The Cause Team Profiles Trip Profile About Tibet Press Room

Kyla, 18-years-old - Most of Kyla’s family, including her father and her twin brothers, are blind. Originally from Lazze and extremely poor, Kayla and her brothers joined the project in 1999. Her brothers have since returned home to start their own teahouse. Kyla has been trained in the medical massage and physiotherapy program and started her own massage clinic, with the help of her friend Digi, who is also blind. Though her mother recently passed away, Kyla remains a very strong woman and has a good knowledge of English, Chinese and Tibetan. (as reported by her teacher)

In Kyla's own words (directly translated): My name is Kyla. I come from Lhatse. I am 18 years old.I am a girl. I heard from Sabriye about a blind man who climbed mountains.
At first i was afraid and surprised. But later I thought we could also climb mountains.
I am interested in climbing because it is a very good experience and a very good chance for
us to show that blind people do as much as normal people can. It is our first time to climb a
mountain. But I am sure we can do it. I am not afraid because I believe in myself and in my friends.

I am very happy to get such a good chance.
I hope and believe that we can climb all the highest mountains in Tibet.

Thank you very much.
