Sonam Bongso, 15-years-old - Sonam Bongso joined the project in 2000 and became one of the first blind students to be integrated into a regular elementary school. While she was difficult to handle at first, Sonam Bongso has become a very outgoing and outstanding student. She speaks English, Chinese and Tibetan. (as reported by her teacher)

In Sonam Bongso's own words (directly translated): My name is Sonam Bongso and I come from Gompo. I want to go climbing because when I climb I am happy. I want to see the flowers and the trees and hear the birds singing. I like the mountains because climbing the mountains then the body is healthy.  Also I want to show that blind people also can climb mountains.
